Volunteers Welcome

There’s lots to be done at ALoT, we need volunteers to run the library during open hours, fix, service and catalog tools, help with marketing and communications, general administration, Repair & Share, events, and more. If you have a particular set of skills then please let us know.

As ALoT is run by volunteers, our hours reflect what our volunteers are able to commit to. If you wish to volunteer but are unable to make our current hours work for you, let us know!

Tool Librarians:

We are currently seeking volunteers who can commit to shifts, preferably once a fortnight (or more!) during open hours. As a librarian, you will be answering member enquiries, processing loans, cataloging items, and checking over our tools and equipment. Full training is provided, and we are particularly interested in volunteers with a good understanding of tools & DIY, although this is not necessary as you’ll learn on the job.

Library Helper:

As a Tool Library Helper, you’ll be the friendly face that keeps our library running smoothly. You’ll assist members with finding the right tools for their projects, answer basic questions, and help maintain an organised, welcoming space. Tasks include reshelving and cleaning tools, tidying and beautifying the space, preparing reservations for pickup, and pitching in with check-ins during busy times. This is a hands-on role, with limited computer based work, perfect for anyone who enjoys tools, DIY, and being part of a community that values sharing and sustainability.

Tool Maintenance & Repairers:

Our maintenance team are our skilled repairers who help look after our inventory and make sure everything is well-maintained and properly stored. You’ll support the technical aspects of tool upkeep, ordering new parts, liaising with external servicers/repair businesses and ensuring everything is functional and safe to use. Many of our maintenance team also volunteer at our monthly Repair & Share repair cafe (First Saturday of the month) to help the general public with repairs of their household items. Our skilled maintenance team get together on Friday afternoons during our open hours, as well as our monthly working bee. If you can’t make these hours, please still get in touch.

Time Requirements:

We are currently seeking volunteers who can regularly commit to volunteering 2 (or more!) shifts per month, our shifts are 2-3 hours each. We also have monthly working bees on the first Sunday of the month (11am -1.30pm).

Our open hours are:
Saturday 10.30am - 1.30pm
Tues & Thursday 5.30pm - 7.30pm
Fridays: 1.30pm - 5.30pm

Many of our volunteers have been with us for a several years, and we like to ensure that new volunteers can commit to a longer term volunteer commitment, as there’s a lot to learn and we are tight-knit team.

If this sounds like you, and you’re keen to volunteer please complete our volunteer form, making sure you include a bit of info about yourself and your interest in joining our team.
